The Pacuare River in Costa Rica is called by National Geographic "one of the most beautiful rivers of the world". The river travels unrestricted from its origin high in the pristine Talamanca mountains 108 kms to the Caribbean.
The Pacuare River is the last great waterway left in Costa Rica with no dams, no major environmental destruction. It is considered a quintessential tropical river and along its course lie several densely vegetated gorges which shelter jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths, and an incredible variety of birds.
The Pacuare is the only river in Costa Rica which contains these amenities, including virgin rain forest, while also being quite accessible.
Also found within these gorges is some of the best whitewater in all of Central America. Thousands of rafters enjoy the clean water, fun rapids and magnificent scenery the Pacuare River offers.
